This is a 600-ampere trip in an 800-ampere KM frame. The case is the same size as the KM3B800 and occupies the same panel space, but it will not carry more than 600 A. The trip unit is interchangeable and sold separately as KM3-T600, so read the element rather than the frame when matching a replacement.

Running a 600-amp trip inside an 800-amp frame buys short-circuit withstand above what the load requires, which is what a coordination study occasionally calls for and what a smaller frame cannot provide. The consequence on the shelf is that this breaker is physically identical to a KM3B800. The trip unit is the only way to tell them apart, and it is interchangeable, so a unit's history matters more than its catalog number. Interrupting ratings published for the KM frame range from 22 kA to 50 kA at 480 volts depending on build. Read the nameplate where that number counts. Reconditioned, one-year guarantee.
