Pushmatic breakers use a push-to-test button rather than a toggle handle, and they bolt into the panel interior instead of plugging on. The line is long out of production and no modern breaker retrofits a Pushmatic panel, which is why the installed base is maintained with tested originals.

The P240 is a 2-pole, 40-ampere Pushmatic (Bulldog / ITE) breaker rated for 120/240V AC, made for Pushmatic load centers. Its trip unit is thermal-magnetic and factory calibrated, handling sustained overload through the bimetal element and short circuits through the magnetic element, with nothing in the field to fall out of adjustment. ESP holds tested stock in its Spokane warehouse and ships nationwide, which shortens the wait considerably when a panel schedule leaves no room to substitute another catalog number for the one specified. Interrupting rating is the specification most often missed on a replacement. Available fault current at the board has to sit below the device rating, and on an older service that figure can have moved since the original installation if the utility upsized its transformer.
