This device does not protect against overload. An automatic molded case switch provides a disconnect point that can be opened and closed under normal load, plus an instantaneous magnetic trip set at the factory to protect the switch itself from high fault current. It has no thermal element and will not trip on a sustained overcurrent. Overload protection must be provided by another device in the circuit. Do not substitute this for a circuit breaker.

Square D LH automatic molded case switches can be interlocked with another switch or breaker to form a source-changeover arrangement. The current-catalog equivalent is the PowerPacT L-Frame automatic switch. ESP stocks tested reconditioned LH-frame switches for gear still in service.

The three zeros in this catalog number are Square D's way of saying there is no trip rating, and that is the whole point of the device. An automatic molded case switch is a disconnect first: it opens and closes under load, and a factory-set magnetic trip at 9,600 amperes protects the switch itself if a fault appears. Sustained overload is somebody else's job. Where these earn their place is in source-changeover schemes, interlocked against another switch or breaker so only one source can feed the load at a time. The 400-ampere rating is the switch's continuous capability, and the LH frame gives it a 35 kA withstand at 480 volts. Reconditioned, tested, one-year operational guarantee.
