The H is the high-interrupting rating and it is the reason to buy this catalog number. KH36125 clears 35 kA at 480 volts; the standard-interrupting KA36125 clears 25 kA. They are the same size, mount in the same I-Line panelboard and carry the same 125 A rating, so on a service where available fault current falls between those figures only one of them is compliant. Verify the catalog number rather than the amperage. This is an I-Line plug-in and will not mount in a bolt-on panelboard.

The Square D K-frame crosses to the PowerPacT HJA36125 in current catalogs. ESP holds new stock of the original.

One letter separates this breaker from a cheaper one that looks identical. KH clears 35 kA at 480 volts, KA clears 25 kA, and once the panel cover is back on there is no way to tell which is installed. That is worth spelling out because the substitution is easy to make in good faith. A short-circuit study that calls for 35 kA is not satisfied by a breaker that looks the same and is rated lower. The modern crossover is the PowerPacT HJA36125, which needs a panel change rather than a swap. Sold new with a one-year operational guarantee.
