This device provides no overcurrent protection. A non-automatic molded case switch opens and closes under load and gives a positive disconnect point. It has no thermal element and no magnetic trip, and it will not open on an overload or a fault. Overcurrent protection must be provided by another device in the circuit. Do not substitute this for a breaker. The breaker at the same rating in this frame is TKMA836800, without the Y.

GE K1200 devices are legacy product. ESP stocks tested reconditioned K1200 switches, frames, trip units and complete breakers for GE CCB and AV1 gear still in service.

The Y in this catalog number is GE saying the device does not trip. It is a switch in a breaker's case, built to open and close an 800-ampere circuit under load and to give an unmistakable disconnect point when someone needs to work downstream. Where it earns its place is in switchboards that need isolation at a position where protection is already handled upstream, and in interlocked arrangements where only one source may feed a load. It withstands 30 kA at 480 volts. It does not interrupt a fault. The breaker version at the same rating is TKMA836800. Reconditioned, tested, one-year operational guarantee.
