Frame and trip are different numbers on this breaker. The K1200 frame is rated to 1200 amperes and the trip unit is interchangeable, so the ampere rating comes from the element rather than the case. Read the trip unit, not the frame, when matching a replacement. Confirm terminal configuration too — the base catalog number ships load-lug-only.

GE K-frame breakers are legacy product. The retrofit path for modern gear is the Tmax XT6 series, which will not mount in a K1200 opening. ESP stocks tested reconditioned K-frame units for GE switchboards and motor control centers still in service.

The interchangeable trip is the useful part of this design and the part that causes ordering mistakes. A K1200 frame will accept elements across a wide range, so two breakers with the same case can protect very different circuits. The number that matters is stamped on the trip unit. GE's own successor line is the Tmax XT6, which requires new gear rather than a swap. That keeps demand for tested originals steady wherever a K-frame switchboard is staying put. Shunt trips, undervoltage releases and auxiliary switches can all be fitted in the field. Reconditioned and tested, one-year guarantee.
