This device provides no overload protection. A Mag-Break motor circuit protector supplies instantaneous short-circuit protection only and is designed to be used with a NEMA motor starter, which provides the thermal overload function. It is not a branch-circuit breaker and must not be substituted for one. The 15-ampere figure is the motor rating; the magnetic pickup is adjustable across 42–198 A adjustable and is what actually opens the circuit. Set it above the motor's starting inrush - that is the whole point of the device, since a thermal-magnetic breaker at this rating would nuisance-trip on startup.

GE discontinued the Mag-Break TEC line.

Fifteen amperes of motor, forty-two to one hundred ninety-eight amperes of adjustable magnetic pickup. That ratio is what separates a motor circuit protector from a breaker. The trip point sits far above the motor's running current so the machine can start, and still far below a bolted fault so the protector clears it. Feed-thru, line and load lugs, reverse-fed capable.
