Confirm the pole count before ordering. Federal Pacific put both the pole count and the trip rating inside the catalog number: NJL622250 reads as two poles at 250 amperes, against NJL631250 which is three poles at the same rating. The two differ by one digit and by an entire phase in the panel.

Federal Pacific, American and Challenger NJL-frame breakers are out of production with no modern drop-in equivalent. ESP stocks tested reconditioned units for FPE gear still in service.

Two-pole devices at 250 amperes turn up in corner-grounded delta services and in DC applications, and they are harder to source than their three-pole siblings because most searches return the three-pole part instead. The catalog numbering on this family hides both the pole count and the trip rating in a digit string, which is how surplus listings for FPE breakers end up wrong so often.
