This unit is sold reconditioned, inspected and tested to ESP Product Standards, and guaranteed to operate normally for one year from the date of sale.

Original manufacture, individually tested. This is an original Zinsco-lineage breaker — the part the panel was built around — inspected and tested to ESP Product Standards, individually tested to confirm it trips before it ships, and backed by a one-year operational guarantee. Connecticut Electric's UBIZ line covers some Zinsco ratings with newly manufactured, ETL-listed compatible replacements. Both have a case.

The letter after the R is the pole count. R38 is the single-pole series and RC38 is the two-pole — same panel, same plug-in connection, one character apart in the catalog number. ESP stocks both across the amperage range, so match the series letter as well as the rating.

Zinsco was founded in Los Angeles in the 1930s and the line passed through GTE Sylvania, Challenger and Thomas & Betts before going out of production. The R and RC series appear under all of those brands and the breakers are the same devices. ESP stocks tested original units for Zinsco and Sylvania load centers still in service.

More Details

Zinsco panels are still in service in thousands of homes, and the original breakers stopped being made decades ago. The series letter is what to match. R38 is single-pole, RC38 is two-pole, and they plug into the same panel. Get the letter wrong and the breaker either will not fit the position or will not protect the circuit you meant. The line passed through GTE Sylvania, Challenger and Thomas & Betts, so the same breaker turns up under several brand names. They are the same device. One-year operational guarantee.

What is "surplus new"?

Surplus new means the item has never been installed or put into service. It may not arrive in its original packaging, but it has never been used.

What does "reconditioned" mean?

Reconditioned items have been inspected, cleaned, and tested to confirm they operate to the manufacturer's original specifications. Every reconditioned item we sell carries a one-year operational guarantee.

How fast will my order ship?

In-stock orders placed before 12pm PST usually ship the same business day via UPS, with tracking provided.
