Where a fault study puts the available current higher, the FHL, FCL and FIL versions of the same frame carry 65 kA, 100 kA and 200 kA respectively and are not interchangeable downward.

At 100 amps and 3 poles on 600V AC, this FA-frame device covers three-phase subfeeds and larger motor loads. The FAL designation is the base interrupting class in the frame — twenty-five kiloamperes at 240 volts, eighteen at 480 — which matters because the FHL, FCL and FIL versions look identical and are not interchangeable downward. Each unit is inspected and tested to ESP Product Standards, including a trip test. Square D has built the FA frame for long enough that panels from very different decades still take the same part.
