The panelboard decides this, not the amperage. EHB breakers fit legacy Square D NEHB panelboards. The other half of the E-Frame range fits NF panelboards and will not go in — which is exactly why an obsolete E-Frame breaker is worth hunting for rather than substituting: changing the breaker type means changing the panelboard. Check the interrupting rating too. The letter is misleading on this line: EHB is the legacy 14 kA tier, EDB is 18 kA and EGB is 35 kA at 480Y/277V. The H does not mean high.

Square D E-Frame breakers for legacy NEHB panelboards are discontinued. The current NF-panelboard equivalents do not retrofit — they need a different panelboard. ESP stocks tested reconditioned E-Frame units across the EHB, EGB and EDB range.

More Details

Square D built the E-Frame in two halves that look alike and do not interchange. The EHB fits legacy NEHB panelboards; the EGB and EDB fit NF panelboards. Swapping between them is not a breaker change, it is a panelboard change. That is the whole reason these are worth stocking. A contractor with a working NEHB panel and one failed position needs an EHB, and no current product will do. The letters mislead on interrupting rating, so read the number rather than the letter: EHB is 14 kA, EDB 18 kA and EGB 35 kA at 480Y/277 volts. Visi-Trip indication shows which breaker opened without pulling the deadfront. HACR and HID rated, so it handles air conditioning and discharge lighting loads. Reconditioned, tested, one-year operational guarantee.
