The 400 is the frame rating, not the trip rating. ITE separated the two on this catalog number: JL3F400 is a 400-ampere frame, and the ampere rating of the finished breaker comes from whichever interchangeable element is fitted. This unit has a 400 A element installed. The complete breaker sold by trip rating is JL3B, as in JL3B225 or JL3B400.

ITE breakers have been out of production for decades and Siemens has no drop-in successor. ESP stocks tested reconditioned ITE units for legacy commercial and industrial gear, backed by a one-year operational guarantee.

Two numbers live on this breaker and only one of them is in the catalog number. The frame handles 400 amperes and carries 30 kA at 480 volts; the trip element decides what the breaker actually opens on, and it is interchangeable. That is why JL3F400 units turn up with 225-amp elements as often as with 400. It is not an error, it is how the frame was sold - and it means ordering by catalog number alone is a gamble.
