ITE used the same JJ frame for two different devices. JJ3-B is a circuit breaker with overcurrent protection; JJ3-S is a non-automatic interrupter, a switch with no trip. The catalog numbers differ by one letter and the cases look alike. This unit is the B — a breaker.

ITE breakers have been out of production for decades. ESP stocks tested reconditioned ITE units for legacy commercial and industrial panels, backed by a one-year operational guarantee.

A 250-ampere trip in ITE's 400-amp JJ frame, which buys withstand above what the load needs. That is occasionally what a coordination study calls for and it is always what get when the original designer specified generously. One letter separates this from a device that does not protect anything. JJ3-S on the same frame is a non-automatic interrupter - a switch. Check the letter before it goes in a panel. Siemens absorbed the ITE line and has no drop-in successor for the JJ frame. Reconditioned, one-year operational guarantee.
