FD and FJ are not interchangeable on a fault-current basis. ITE built both frames at overlapping ampere ratings, and the FD is the higher-interrupting of the two — the FJ family is documented at 14 kA at 480 volts. Where a coordination study drove the original selection, verify the catalog number rather than the amperage. The current-limiting sibling in this range is FXD.

Three ITE F-frames turn up at 150 amperes and they behave differently under fault. FJ is the modest one at 14 kA. FD sits above it. FXD is current-limiting and sits higher still. None of that is visible from the amperage, and all three mount the same way. On a service where available fault current was the reason the original was specified, the letters after the F are the specification. The magnetic element is adjustable, which is worth setting deliberately on a 150-amp motor feeder. Siemens absorbed the ITE line and nothing currently built fits an FD opening. Reconditioned, tested, one-year operational guarantee.
