This is a frame, not a complete breaker. It will not protect a circuit until a trip unit is installed. GE sold the K1200 line this way deliberately: one frame, a catalogue of interchangeable elements, and the ampere rating chosen at installation. Specify the trip unit need — TKM31000 for 1000 A, TKM31200 for 1200 A, and equivalents below.

GE K1200 frames are legacy product. THKMA is the higher-interrupting sibling and the modern retrofit is the Tmax XT6, which does not fit a K1200 opening. ESP stocks tested reconditioned frames and complete K-frame breakers.

More Details

A frame without a trip unit is a mechanism and a set of contacts. It carries the interrupting rating and the physical footprint, and it does nothing about overcurrent until an element goes in. That was the point of the K1200 design. One frame in the switchboard, a trip unit sized to the load, and a rating that can be changed later without pulling the breaker out of the panel. The frame is the part that is hard to find. Reconditioned, tested, one-year operational guarantee.

Surplus new means the item has never been installed or put into service. It may not arrive in its original packaging, but it has never been used.
