This device provides no overcurrent protection. The N in the catalog number is Westinghouse's non-automatic designator: the switch opens and closes a 250-ampere circuit under load and gives a positive disconnect point, but it has no trip and will not open on an overload or a fault. Protection must come from another device in the circuit. The breaker on the same frame at this rating is JB3250W, without the N.

The Westinghouse AB De-ion frames are obsolete with no modern drop-in equivalent. ESP stocks tested reconditioned units for legacy Westinghouse and Cutler-Hammer panelboards, switchboards and motor control centers still in service.

A single letter separates this from a breaker. JB3250W trips; JB3250NW does not. Both sit in the same J-frame case, both take the same mounting, and only one of them protects anything. Non-automatic switches earn their place in switchboards that need isolation at a position where protection is already handled upstream, and in interlocked source-changeover schemes where only one supply may feed a load. Load side lugs are fitted. If overcurrent protection is what the position needs, JB3250W is the part. Reconditioned, tested, one-year operational guarantee.
