The factory auxiliary switch behind the AS suffix carries a set of contacts that follow the breaker handle, so a panel monitoring system, a BAS head end, or a simple indicator lamp can read breaker position without anyone walking to the panelboard. That matters most where a tripped 20-amp branch is expensive to discover late — refrigeration, sump and lift stations, telecom racks, process instrumentation. Because the switch is factory-fitted rather than field-added, sourcing means buying the whole assembly, and Square D no longer makes finding one easy.
