Where a fault study puts the available current higher, the FHL, FCL and FIL versions of the same frame carry 65 kA, 100 kA and 200 kA respectively and are not interchangeable downward.

Protection here is thermal-magnetic with long-time and instantaneous functions: the bimetal answers sustained overload, the magnetic element clears short circuits within the first half cycle. An overcurrent on any pole opens all 2 together. The same FA frame is also built as a Mag-Gard motor circuit protector with the magnetic element only and no thermal protection at all — those carry an M suffix and are a different device. This one is the thermal-magnetic breaker. At 30 amps the usual service is two-pole equipment and feeder circuits. Tested and guaranteed.
