This is an original Federal Pacific breaker — the part the panel was built around — inspected and tested to ESP Product Standards, individually tested to confirm it trips before it ships, and backed by a one-year operational guarantee. Third-party replacements exist for the residential Stab-Lok ratings, but the commercial NB and NE frames have no new-manufacture equivalent: an original is the only option, and a tested one is the only sensible one.

Read the digits after the series letters. Federal Pacific put the voltage class, the pole count and the amperage into the catalog number on this line: NB232015 parses as 240 volts, 3 poles, 15 amperes. The digit that matters most is the pole count, because a 2-pole and a 3-pole at the same rating are different catalog numbers that look nearly identical — NE223020 and NE231020 differ by one character and by a phase.

Federal Pacific NB and NE frames are out of production with no modern drop-in equivalent. Unlike the residential Stab-Lok ratings, no third party manufactures a compatible replacement for these. ESP stocks tested original units for FPE and American panelboards and switchboards still in service.

The commercial Federal Pacific frames are a different problem from the residential Stab-Lok ratings. Connecticut Electric makes new replacements for the household breakers; for the NB and NE frames nobody does. That leaves an original unit as the only option when an FPE panelboard needs a position filled, and it makes testing the whole question. ESP inspects and tests each one to ESP Product Standards and confirms it trips before it ships. 15 amperes, 3 poles, 240V. The pole count sits in the catalog number rather than on the front of the case, so read the digits rather than the amperage. One-year operational guarantee.
